Spain, Philippines Sign Agreement on Spanish Language

The most awaited desire in my life has almost come, and hoping that it'll materialized soon so as the Senate would agree as a whole.
Why learning Spanish? well, that's the language of my ancestors. I took up Spanish class in College as prerequisite but the sad thing was I didn't learn that much. The professor who just passed away wasn't a perfect for it.
If you speak Spanish, you can communicate with almost 500 million people worldwide! Think how many more employment options this gives you! And if you want to take a trip to Spain or Latin America, a little knowledge of Spanish will go a long way.
Learning Spanish would enable me to learn more about the culture of my ancestors which it connects the Spanish regime and ruling here in the Philippines back the old times. On the other hand, it'll expand my universe so as it'll help me when traveling to the Spanish countries.

MADRID—Spain will help the Philippines reintroduce Spanish language instruction at public schools in the southeastern Asian country under an agreement signed Tuesday between the two nations.

The study of the language is currently voluntary at public high schools in the Philippines, a former Spanish colony, but the government plans to make its availability widespread from 2012.

Under the agreement signed Tuesday, Madrid will help train Spanish language teachers in the Philippines, help develop the curriculum and provide electronic teaching aids as well as technical advice, the Spanish foreign ministry said.

It was signed by the Philippines' Education Secretary Jesli Lapus and the Spanish education ministry's director for international relations, Jose Manuel Martinez Sierra in Barcelona, it added in a statement.

In 1987 the Philippines abolished Spanish as one of its official languages as well as a requirement that college students had to learn it.

The language, one of the world's most spoken, has since largely vanished from everyday use in the country of just under 100 million people, with English and the local languages now commonly used.

Unlike in Madrid's colonies in Latin America, the Spanish language was never as widespread in the Philippines, mainly because of the small number of Spanish settlers in the archipelago.

English was introduced to the country when it passed from Spanish to American control after the Spanish-American war of 1898.

FILIPINA WINS TOP AWARD AT LONDON FASHION WEEK

Another latest info from the cyber world..a Filipina by the name Mich Dulce brought honor to the country.

"MANILA, Philippines—Young Filipina fashion designer Mich Dulce is this year’s winner of the International Young Creative Entrepreneur (IYCE) award for fashion at the London Fashion Week.
Dulce, who was a Pinoy Big Brother participant a few years back, faced stiff competition from among young forerunners in the fashion industry but her unique creativity and international outlook gave her an edge over the other short-listed candidates.
A permanent fixture in the fashion scene since 2001, Dulce has studied extensively in the best fashion schools around the world like Central St. Martins and London School of Fashion in the United Kingdom and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. She has also had the opportunity to intern for such big names in fashion like Marjan Pejoski, Jessica Ogden, and Susan Cianciolo.
Since studying the art of hat making in 2005, she has unleashed a flurry of delightful headpieces onto Manila’s runways, as well as for theater and various individuals, eccentric or not. All her hats are handmade, exquisitely molded, and always with a whimsical touch that makes it distinctly her own, whether it’s her geometric experimentation, her unusually sculpted fabric, or her unconventional use of materials.
In 2009, Dulce expanded her skill set by studying the art of period corsetry to complement her entry into the bridal market in the same year.
The IYCE win is just one of the many accomplishments Dulce has tucked under her belt. In 2002, she was a finalist for the Paris Young Designer’s Competition and 1st runner-up in the Mega Young Designer’s Competition. In 2004 she was nominated for Revolutionary Designer of the Year at the MTV Style Awards, and in 2007 she won the Fashion Designer of the Year Award for Street Wear at the Mega Fashion Awards.
As the official Philippine entry, Dulce was sent on a 10-day all expenses paid trip to the UK where she met industry professionals and toured leading organizations in the fashion industry. The UK trip culminated with her attending London Fashion Week, together with fellow contestants from Bangladesh, India, Libya, Lithuania, Russia, Sri Lanka, Syria, and Turkey. It was there that she was announced the winner.
Dulce will receive grant money of 5,000 pounds to be used on a collaborative project with the British Council."

LONGEST HAIR REPORT: MSN NEWS

Upon browsing the cyberworld, I found a recent news at MSN site about this Vietnamese man who had the longest hair so far
"A Vietnamese man who died this week and whose hair was so long it resembled a boa constrictor, may have had the world's longest mane, reports said Thursday.
The exact length of Tran Van Hay's unwashed hair was unclear but the Vietnam News said it was 6.8 metres long (over 22 feet). The Thanh Nien daily said Hay's matted locks were measured at 6.2 metres in 2006.
China's Xie Qiuping is on record as having the world's longest hair, measured at 5.6 metres in 2004, according to the website of Guinness World Records.
Hay began to let his hair grow more than 50 years ago because he often got sick after a haircut, the Vietnam News quoted his wife, Nguyen Thi Hoa, as saying.
Media reports said he lived a simple life as a herbalist, but his hair could complicate things. Reports said no motorcycle taxi would carry him because he could not wear a helmet. In the daytime he balanced his hair on his head like a basket, protected by a scarf.
Hay, whose hair weighed several kilograms (pounds), died at home Wednesday in the southern province of Kien Giang at the age of 79, Vietnam News said."
